What a Surprise!!!!

(photo from the internet google - dairy cow in New Zealand)

I'll bet you are wondering why I've posted a photo of dairy cattle in New Zealand - right. Well many of you know that I live on a ranch in Central Texas, we raise beef cattle, meat goats, Quarter Horses, Border Collies and yes I have a Holstein/Jersey cross milk cow. A "house cow" in kiwi terminology. Well, my dear friend Raewyn is from the North Island of New Zealand. She and her husband have a dairy farm - so we have developed a "common ground" - we both love to quilt!!

So, please go here and read Raewyn's post and read the comments, too - especially mine!

Guess what came to my house today!!! Boy was I SURPRISED!!!!!

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!!! Now, I don't have to make my own!!!

Thanks, Raewyn

I have a question about goats. I grew up in the city, so I don't know anything about them. I had wondered if people ate goat meat, because my DIL in FL would like to have some goats - I'm not sure why. She is from India and knows how to take care of them. She also wants to get chickens as soon as they are able to get a house. The apartment complex where they live is raising the rent, so they are looking for a house, so maybe she can get chickens soon. She also loves to garden. Anyway, just wondering where the goat meat goes. Also, in your previous post, you talked about winning blocks from your guild. My guild used to do that - we would make the monthly block and then one person would win them all. However, we stopped that because not many people were making the blocks (including me - I gave up after never winning)! Are you the winner of Raewyn's book cover?

Lucky you!

BTW, where in Central Texas are you? I'm between Hye and Johnson City and am interested in learning more about owning a "house cow" like you have. We consume so much dairy at our house I'm wondering if it might be more economical (and healthy) plus a fun 4H project.

How fun.
You are so generous - and I know that first hand!

What a pretty surprise! It only seems fitting that your generosity is returned to you. Written as I smile at my darling Texas table topper. :)

Did you know Holstein is originally Frisian; from the (dairy)province in Holland I live in?

Groetjes!
