Trusty Black Hat and a Winner!!

My apologies - I said I would draw yesterday, but I was busy until late last night and then we had storms in the area and the computer was acting up and....

So this morning, I put the names in the resident cowboy's trusty black hat...

...and said cowboy drew...

Maureen you are the winner!!! (I think I have your address, but you might email it to me, just in case I wrote it down incorrectly!)

I was glad to reciprocate to Maureen. She had a wonderful fabric giveaway a few months ago and I was the blessed winner!! I have treasured those fabrics and have used some in a few little projects! I so enjoy it when I use fabric that I received from a friend  - there is just a connection there about sharing fabric - I wonder what she thought when she first bought it; did she use it in just one project or for just one block! It has also widened my fabric scope! I may not have noticed a particular fabric in the store, but when it is gifted, I view it with new eyes! Plus, in my very small town, fabric from different parts of the country are usually new to me!!

So, thanks so much to each and every one of you who are a part of my quilting blogging life! My horizons have been expanded and I've been richly blessed!!

Blessings to Ya'll

Barrister Blocks

Just watched the news and the weather is wacko all across the US! Praying for everyone affected by fires, rip tides, super hot weather and snow!! We are one diverse country!!

Well, we're in the HOT part - so I've been sewing in the afternoons. Thus, I'm caught up on Randy's Sow-a-long! For some reason I'm back on monochrome blocks! I really like the new blocks, and then  I put all the blocks together just to see what I've got. I'm liking it more and more!

I'm even liking the blocks just next to each other with out sashing or setting blocks! What do you think?

Have a wonderful weekend! See ya Monday when I draw a winner for the green FQs!

Blessings!!!!

I'M STILL HERE !!!!! Plus the very late Fabulous Fifteenth Fabric Freebie!!

I really am still around, but many events have prevented me from posting! I was away for Mother's Day weekend and got home late Sunday evening. Then on Monday evening we had rain!!!! Yeah!!!! Here is the rain water running into the cistern from the porch roof!

But during the storm we had two power outages within seconds of each other and it corrupted some files on our computer, so it had to go to the computer doctor. So we were without the computer last week. Then I was away last weekend for a very busy weekend of moving furniture for Mollie, working my border collies at two different friend's places, attending Mikkie's baby shower (I'm not sure if I've mentioned it, but I'm going to be a grandma! Mikkie and Tyler are having a little girl, "Gracen Kate", in September. I've started on the baby quilt, so will post about it later!) and seeing all of my kids except one!!! I picked up the computer late Sunday evening on my way home, and though it didn't fry the hard drive, everything had to be initialized again. So, I've spent the past two days getting all our settings and programs up and running! I am quite capable, but my patience is not what it used to be! LOL! Most everything is going again, but even though we saved all the pictures, we lost all our email addresses - bummer!

But, at least I now have things where I can add new pictures and show you what I've been doing!

Last week I finished hand quilting and binding the baby quilt that I made for a friend's granddaughter. I'm very pleased with how it turned out!

It is now on it's way to the little cutie!!

I'm working full force on TWQ, but have been interrupted many times. My goal is to have the top finished by June 1 and in the quilt frame - it is another that I will hand quilt! I'm shooting for August to have it finished, but.....

Lyn's (DIL) favorite color is green, which was also my mother's favorite color. For our guild FQ swap this month we were to bring a FQ in our mother's favorite color. Well, I've been buying up green fabric for over a year so that when I made TWQ I would have some choices. So for this month's FFFF I'm offering 6 green FQ's in honor of my mother and Lyn!

All you need to do to be entered in the giveaway is leave a comment on this post and tell me your mother's favorite color and a memory or story concerning your mom and that color!

My mom loved green so much, that everything was green - rooms, clothes, jewelry, bedding, dishes - you name it, it was green. It was time to paint the trim on our house which had white siding and mom asked us what color we wanted and we said - "anything but green"!!! We thought "blue" would be a nice change. So, she brought home two gallons of "Blue Spruce" paint! Yep, you're right - it was green!!!

I will put the names in my resident cowboy's trusty black hat and draw a winner next Monday, May 28, which is also Memorial Day!

Blessings to each of you!!!!

The Value of Mothers

Happy Mothers day to all the Mothers out there............anniek

Answers given by 2nd grade school children to the following questions:

Why did God make mothers?

1. She's the only one who knows where the scotch tape is.
2. Mostly to clean the house.
3. To help us out of there when we were getting born.

How did God make mothers?

1. He used dirt, just like for the rest of us.
2. Magic plus super powers and a lot of stirring.
3. God made my mom just the same like he made me. He just used bigger parts.

What ingredients are mothers made of?

1. God makes mothers out of clouds and angel hair and everything nice in the world and one dab of mean.
2. They had to get their start from men's bones.  Then they mostly use string, I think.

Why did God give you your mother and not some other mom?

1. We're related.
2. God knew she likes me a lot more than other people's mom like me.

What kind of a little girl was your mom?

1. My mom has always been my mom and none of that other stuff.
2. I don't know because I wasn't there, but my guess would be pretty bossy.
3. They say she used to be nice.
What did mom need to know about dad before she married him?
1. His last name.
2. She had to know his background.  Like is he a crook?  Does he get drunk on beer?
3. Does he make at least $800 a year?  Did he say NO to drugs and YES to chores?

Why did your mom marry your dad?
1. My dad makes the best spaghetti in the world.  And my mom eats a lot.
2. She got too old to do anything else with him.
3. My grandma says that mom didn't have her thinking cap on.

Who's the boss at your house?
1. Mom doesn't want to be boss, but she has to because dad's such a goof ball.
2. Mom. You can tell by room inspection. She sees the stuff under the bed.
3. I guess mom is, but only because she has a lot more to do than dad.

What's the difference between moms and dads?
1. Moms work at work and work at home and dads just go to work at work.
2. Moms know how to talk to teachers without scaring them.
3. Dads are taller and stronger, but moms have all the real power 'cause that's who you got to ask if you want to sleep over at your friends.
4. Moms have magic, they make you feel better without medicine.

What does your mom do in her spare time?
1. Mothers don't do spare time.
2. To hear her tell it, she pays bills all day long.

What would it take to make your mom perfect?
1. On the inside she's already perfect.. Outside, I think some kind of plastic surgery.
2. Diet.  You know, her hair.  I'd diet, maybe blue.

If you could change one thing about your
mom, what would it be?
1. She has this weird thing about me keeping my room clean. I'd get rid of that.
2. I'd make my mom smarter.  Then she would know it was my sister who did it not me.
3. I would like for her to get rid of those invisible eyes on the back of her head.

LOTS OF STUFF!!!!

If any of you follow Janet O. you know she is infamous for VERY loooooooong posts! (which I absolutely love, by the way!), but I never seem to find that much to post about - until today!!

Anniversary Giveaway

May 7th will be my one year blogger anniversary. So in honor of that I'm giving away my second copy of one of my most favorite books ever!! If you like quilts "With a Past" this book by Jenny Carr Kinney is perfect! The designs can be used by hand quilters (like me) and machine quilters alike. So, just leave a comment on this post and tell me your all time favorite quilting design, and I'll put your name in my resident cowboy's trusty black hat and draw on winner on Monday, May 7, 2012.

My all time most favorite quilting design is cross hatching - in all sizes - I can only think of a couple of quilts that I DIDN'T use cross hatching at least in some part! So yes, TWQ will have crosshatching!

Guild Quilt Show

Our guild quilt show was this past Saturday and Sunday. I was only able to help on Sunday afternoon, but it was so fun. The first quilt show that I have ever been involved with. The Best in Show quilt was TOTALLY AMAZING (my poor photography skills do not do the quilt justice). It was made by Mike's best friend's sil! And we didn't know that it was entered! So a double treat for us!!

Remember this quilt that Mike's mom made from her mother's 1930's and 1940's dresses? Well, we were short of entries, so I entered this one. And it won a ribbon!! Yeah for Mike's mom!!!

I also entered Mandie and Bobby's wedding quilt - the wool crazy quilt - and I won a ribbon too!!

Meeting Blogger Friends in Person!

I became one of Lucy's followers soon after I began blogging. She does amazing quilts, and loves to hand quilt like I do. She also is an amazing photographer and we follow each others 365 photo blogs (hers and mine) and she had posted about the horses in the park where she bicycles (Lucy and her wonderful family live in the Netherlands). Well, a conversation ensued about horses there verses horses here, etc etc, and she said that she had ridden quite a bit as a girl and missed it. So, I said, "If you are ever in Texas, come ride with me, I have the perfect horse for you to ride!" Well, SHE DID!!! and she brought her wonderful husband along! We had the most amazing time yesterday, sharing our lives, horseback riding, eating, visiting, doing chores! I am still overwhelmed today at what a blessed event it was!!!! In fact, Mike and I had never even considered traveling to Europe, but now a seed is planted in our hearts to visit!

Lucy and Rene' brought such wonderful gifts for us! Tea towel with a Holstein Milk Cow (which is a big industry in the Netherlands) - she didn't even really know that I have several milk cows! The coffee mugs in Dutch colors with cows - my new favorite coffee mug!!! Hard to see, but a beautiful journal/notebook in Dutch figures and colors with a matching bookmark (top right hand corner) and "StroopWafels" translated - Syrup Waffles! Syrup poured on waffles and compressed to form a type of cookie!! YUM, YUM!!!!

And the cutest little wooden Dutch shoes with tulips and 'Holland" key chain. Lucy hand made the ball for the key chain!

Here's Lucy on Glory, Rene' on Gal and Mike on Ranger! I got to be the photographer!! Lucy's camera is amazing and I want one!!! (maybe someday I'll be a better "picture taker"!!)

Blessings to Ya'll
