Christmas Greetings BOM

Two days in a row!!!! Well, I posted my September BOM yesterday, because I had just finished it that morning. Yesterday evening, I was tidying my sewing area and saw my draft of the October BOM and just sat down and machine pieced it last night!! As you can see, it was fairly simple mostly small hst. I knew that if I put the fabric and items "away" I would put it off and not get it done very expediently. Now I can concentrate on my Christmas small quilts.

Christmas Greetings BOM

Another "under the wire" finish for the only BOM I'm doing!! You think I'd get it done at the first of the month, but no I put it off. But even though I put it off, I'm pleased with the results!! I don't have the patterns, I just look on-line and create a 6" pattern from the posted 12" pattern. Then I have been piecing by hand to get all the corners and points exact. I think I'm getting better and more precise - a rewarding "self" challenge!
Just a note of interest - the center star is 3 inches across from point to point and there are 52 pieces in this block!!

Okay, Okay I HAVE been quilting, though it be slowly!!!

I really have been working on quilt projects, just slowly. My main focus has been the crazy quilt, but I'm not posting pics until I've finished it and given it to Mandie and Bobby. But, have been working on little things. In my planning for Rygh (son) and Lyn's (future DIL)  quilt I have some fabric that is silk drapery samples that I wanted to use. Janet suggested I "practice with the fabric to see if I like it so with fabric from my stash and one block of the silk I have started a lap size log cabin quilt. I confess, log cabin quilts are one of my favorites, but have never made one! or even a block!! So these are my new "favorite" blocks to make!!!

And I like using the silk fabric - it is easy to use and doesn't fray. And can you see the little bit of "glitz" that it gives!!

Mandie came in this weekend since Bobby was out of town, and she helped me make some more block design boards for bigger blocks. Then she set out several postage stamp blocks for me. It was fun spending time with her and talking quilting among other things.

Last, but of course not the least, I finished the August Christmas Greetings BOM which is called Glad Tidings. This one was simpler, but of course always a challenge as I'm making six inch blocks and like making the pieces small for the "mosaic" look. I only hand piece on it in the evenings if we watch TV, so it goes a little slower. I'm pleased with it. I left the red framing off this time - not sure if I like the red - it seems to over power the small blocks. What do ya'll think!
 

Christmas Greetings BOM/Vacation!!!!!!

Well by switching June and July Blocks for the BOM, I'm now on schedule!!!! Yeah! Have an intricate applique block that I'm determined to do by hand!

Probably won't be in touch for a couple of weeks.We're leaving for Wyoming tomorrow. I'm so ready for some cool weather!!! Plus, I'll get to see family and lots of friends!

Christmas Greetings BOM progress

Spent most of the weekend working border collies with friends - it was such a good time!!! Didn't take any pictures, but all the dogs did very well. Looking forward to the fall trial circuit!!!

But last night I did sit and finish the center of the Advent Wreath - I'm pleased. I'm a little rusty sewing such small pieces, but it has been really rewarding!! I'm getting my "feel" back - keeps my fingers nimble! And my conversion worked - the block is right at 6".

Then this morning, I finished cutting the pieces (52) for the Star of the Magi block! I put them on my new "design board" (Thanks Janet) and it's ready for me when I finish the Advent Wreath!!

I'm a little behind on the BOM, as I signed up late, but hope to be caught up by July. It's my first Elm Creek Quilts quilt (my favorite novel series by Jennifer Chiaverini) so I'm pretty excited to finally do one.
