Fabric Give-a-way

I've only been a blogger for about 9 months, but it has enriched (and overloaded LOL) my quilting life! I've been inspired, intimidated, challenged, and affirmed, but the one thing that has blessed me the most is receiving fabric whether it be in a give-a-way, a swap or as a gift. Then using that fabric in a project - makes me think outside myself and "connect" with that person. So, "It is better to give than to receive" and I'm going to offer a small fabric give-a-way each month on the 15th. I'll run the give-a-way for a few days (less than a week) and then draw for the winner. All you have to do is leave a comment on this post and tell me a sewing "trick" or "gadget" that is your favorite. Mine is the block design boards that I learned from Janet O.

    Can I count the design boards as my trick this month? :) Beautiful fabrics, Doniene, and so generous to do this monthly.
    I am really liking my "Kwik Klip" tool for helping me pin baste quilt sandwiches without hand fatigue. How's that?

    I used to love the curved basting pins... till September 2011.
    I don't want to be in the draw, but i do want to tell you I love your initiative!

    I cannot quilt without my tiny scissors they are sharp and perfect for cutting small threads.

    You are so sweet and generous, as always. One of my favorite notions is my half-square triangle ruler by Nifty Notions. It is the fastest, most accurate way to make HSTs. Also, one of my little tips, I put a tiny dot of fingernail polish on my bobbins that hold quilting thread. It is easy to see at a glance if my bobbin has regular thread or the heavier weight quilting thread.

    I love my Ottlites. I have 4 of them - everywhere I stitch and one ready for travel. As I get older, I rely on them more and more.

    This is funny cause I've learned everything from you. And I don't think that I should be entered into this, but I will share, that with the kind of quilting I do, I love using fusible interfacing. Makes my life easier!

    Love the post above mine- how sweet!! My fav hand applique trick is to fold under on the sewing line and pinch with your fingers before palcing it on your background. It sure makes needleturn easier:)

    My favorite is the book by my sewingmachine pedal. When quilting a quilt you have more control because you can't put the pedal that much in so youre stitching is more consant.

    Thank you for your generosity! I love the colors in those fabrics. Lots of great tips in your previous comments - I love my Ott lights too. I have a tip for finding them at a great price: I found mine at Tuesday Morning and when I travel and spot one, I pop in to scout for them. Its kind of hit or miss, but at $40-50, its worth the hunt. I also like to keep at least 2 spools of the same thread on hand. When my bobbins are empty, I can just fill more without unthreading my machine.

    My favourite tool is my quick unpick. I never leave home without it.

    I'm a bit of a perfectionist and am known for unpicking anything that doesn't meet my expectations.

    I love Electric Quilt. I use it to play with layouts and so I know how many blocks and units to make. I'm a scrap quilter, so I rarely use patterns "as is," so EQ helps me make those patterns my own. Thanks for the giveaway.

    my fave tool is my gingher snips; they hang on a ribbon around my neck and i've been known to run to the store and still have them on! handy, useful and downright indispensable!

    I recently invested in some straight pins. I always thought pins were pins until I read Mrs. Goodneedle's blog on the pins she uses. I thought she was nuts until I started to notice that I was selecting certain pins in my pincushion for different "jobs."

    The Fons & Porter glasshead pins are 1 7/8th inch long, slender, and have improved my piecing of traditional (fiddly) blocks.

    I've saved my "spear" dressmaking pins for other projects... and am now considering making a couple of different pincushions for the pin varieties. *lol*

    I would have never thought that straight pins could make such a difference in piecing.

    I loves my ruler.....and also rotary cutter. I used to use scissor last time, but then I bought a new rotary cutter and love it since.

    I love my June Taylor Shape-Cut ruler, the one with slots at every 1/2" up to 12". I use it ALL the time, and it makes cutting a bunch of pieces a snap! It's a little pricey, but with a JoAnne's coupon, it's managable!
