Brand Quilt

I've been busy on the crazy quilt - some times I feel a little "crazy" lol!! Not quite done attaching the 'blocks' with feather stitching, but getting closer. Hope to be done in a few days, and then have it tied and bound by the middle of August (self-imposed deadline).

I was going through pictures the other day and found this one (taken 11 years ago) of the quilt I made for Mike. I love stars and the brand he inherited from his grandfather was the "star" brand. So I designed this quilt of sampler stars and the alternate blocks are our families brands. This is our summer quilt and it now pretty faded and worn, but we still love it. I made a billion mistakes on this quilt, but I don't tell anyone!! lol

Frugal Quilt - What's your take for a Story?

I've been working on "Orphan" blocks - a term I just learned today from Becky at http://thecivilwarquilter.blogspot.com/ . It is my newest blog I follow and I'm totally fascinated by her presentation. I've pieced the following small quilt from some of my orphan blocks and wanted to open it up for stories!!! I call it my "Frugal Quilt". The second picture shows how the large triangle was "pieced" to make the "piece". In fact, 18 of the 25 small blocks (about 4") have been "pieced" this way. Also, the seams are a very scant quarter inch (more like an eighth!)

My story is: The faithful servant, saved the small scraps from the family's sewing and after the day's chores were completed, she pieced the blocks hoping to get enough for a quilt possibly for her baby or even a quilt for her to share with her future husband.

What's your story?

Back in Texas

Got back to Texas last Friday late - it was hot!!! Had a wonderful time visiting friends and family in Wyoming, Colorado and Oklahoma. I'm a lousy photographer - I forget to take pictures!! But the scenery was beautiful!! We did take a couple of pictures at my brother's place. I've never seen it this green in July!!! The ranch where he and his family live has been in the family since 1898.

It rained every day that we were there and one day the high was only in the 60's!!! We basked in the cool weather.

I'm sad to say that I didn't work on any quilting the whole time! Now it's time to get some projects finished!!
